In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Hi all :) Microsoft is increasingly forcing people's computers to upgrade to Windows 10 even if you don't ask for it. If you don't want that to happen, there is a tiny utility you can download called "Never Ten" which will prevent it from happening. You can get it from https://www.grc.com/never10.htm - click the green "Download Now" button on the right side of the page. Choose "Run" then click the "Disable Windows 10 Upgrade" button. You can reverse that later on if you change your mind until Microsoft stops offering it for free. I'm yet to see a particularly compelling reason to upgrade if you're happy with seven or eight, but on the plus side they've sorted out most of the annoying glitches with Windows 10 now. If you've already been upgraded and don't like it, you can easily go back to what you had by clicking start - settings - update and recovery - recovery - go back to Windows 7/8. Takes about 20 minutes. A more informative newsletter will be coming in a few days. Cheers, Mike -- ________________________________ Proprietor, Cool Country Consulting. At this stage I don't know if it's an ongoing issue. Since most of you only run TeamViewer when you need it, you don't need to worry. However, some people have it running all the time which might put them at risk. (It will appear in that bunch of icons near the clock, although you might have to click the little arrow to the left of those icons to find it.) If you know it's running on your computer it might be a good idea to quit TeamViewer until the situation is clear. There are some alternative products available which I will review in the next few days. For more information see http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/06/01/teamviewer_mass_breach_report and https :// www.reddit.com /r/technology/comments/4m7ay6/ teamviewer _has_been_hacked_they_are_denying/ Cheers, Mike. -- ________________________________ Proprietor, Cool Country Consulting. Message-ID: <576FC682.7060701@auzzie.net> Hi all :) Just a quick note that if you have an email address that ends with @bigpond.com or @bigpond.net.au it is likely you will soon receive an email from Telstra to let you know they are going to change your email settings in the coming weeks. For some people it will be an easy change of one or two settings. For others it might be more complicated. If you'd like to get help from Telstra directly, a good way to do this is by chatting with their representatives online via http://livechat.telstra.com - saves being on hold or having to struggle with understanding accents. Of course, if you need more help you're welcome to get in touch with me and I'll either help you in person or via TeamViewer etc. If you're a 'DIY' type person, you can also read up on it at http://whrl.pl/ReEnzQ Your email address isn't changing, but since you might need to reconfigure a few things, this could be a good opportunity for you to consider migrating to an email address that ends with @gmail.com or @outlook.com so that you are no longer tied to Telstra. That way, later on you can change Internet companies without having to worry about losing your email address. - Gmail has built in spam filtering that is significantly better than most other providers. - If you use Microsoft Outlook on your computer and want to sync your calendar and contacts with your phone, an outlook.com address is a better choice.
